Brendan Rodgers Reacts to Bojan Miovski to Celtic Rumours

Brendan Rodgers has reacted to the rumours linking Celtic with a move for Bojan Miovski of Aberdeen.

Celtic need to sign another striker in the January transfer window. The club have two options in that position right now, Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Kyogo has failed to match his numbers from last season so far. The Japanese striker scored 34 goals in the 2022/23 campaign. We are in December now, and he has scored just 8 in the 2023/24 campaign.

Brendan Rodgers' system has seen Kyogo receiving the ball much less frequently than he did under Ange Postecoglou's management. It certainly has had a negative impact on his effectiveness.

Oh has been quite impressive in recent weeks. But the fact of the matter is that he has scored just 5 goals so far this season.

Also, is this just a good run of form or the Scottish striker finding his feet in Scottish football? Time shall tell.

Then there is the AFC Asian Cup, which starts in January. Both Kyogo and Oh, or one of them, could be away for a significant period of time if selected to represent their respective nations there.

No matter which way you look at it, Celtic could do with another striker. Bojan Miovski of Aberdeen is someone they have been heavily linked with lately.

The North Macedonian striker has been in great form this season and has scored 11 goals already. That is even more impressive when you consider that Aberdeen are a team that look set for a relegation battle this season.

According to The Scottish Sun, when asked about his interest in the Aberdeen striker, Rodgers replied: “I wouldn’t comment on any specific player.

“This is the period where agents throw out names and links, so if I did it would be a long six weeks.

“But there are certainly names there. As a manager you’d always prefer to get them in the sooner the better but we have the winter break and we won’t play until the middle of January.

“Work is also under way for the guys who haven’t been playing — obviously they’ll want to get out to play as quickly as possible.”

Aberdeen are believed to value Miovski at a transfer fee higher than the £4.4 million Celtic paid to sign Scott Brown from Hibernian in 2007.

A large part of the Celtic fanbase does not seem convinced that the club should make a big transfer bid to sign Miovski. But at the same time, one has to look at the positives associated with the move.

Miovski is proven in the Scottish Premiership and would not take time to adjust to the league. That is something which would be beneficial for Celtic if both Kyogo and Oh are away with their national teams come January.

Also, Miovski has shown the ability to score consistently in Europe this season. He just seems like a pure goalscorer who will put away chances if he gets them.
