Celtic Open Talks to Sign 21-year-old Danish Striker

Celtic have reportedly opened talks to sign the 21-year-old striker, with the club in need of another option going forward.

Kyogo not being called up for Japan's AFC Asian Cup squad might have been a blow for the player but it was a blessing for Celtic, with Oh Hyeon-gyu already away with the South Korean national team to take part in the tournament.

It means that Celtic at least have a striker to rely on this month. They do need to make an addition in that area of the pitch.

Kyogo's form has been very inconsistent this season, as Brendan Rodgers' system does not seem to suit him as well as Ange Postecoglou's style of football did.

Oh has put in good performances here and there. Overall, he does not have the consistency required to be Celtic's main striker.

Regardless, a third option at striker is necessary for Celtic. The Scottish champions always have a congested schedule and just one injury upfront could leave them in deep trouble.

Bojan Miovski and Lawrence Shankland have been linked with the club lately. Both are Premiership-proven strikers. Yet, it looks like Celtic will stick to signing youngsters from other leagues. Or at least try to.

According to Football Insider, Celtic have opened talks with Brondby IF over the signing of Mathias Kvistgaarden this January.

Kvistgaarden is 21 years old and currently is a regular starter for Brondby IF, who are putting up a challenge for the Danish league title.

Kvistgaarden has had a hand in making that possible. He has registered 7 goals and 7 assists in 21 appearances this season according to Transfermarkt.

Kvistgaarden's style of play has been compared to that of Kyogo. With the Japanese striker himself struggling in Rodgers' system, one has to wonder whether bringing in the 21-year-old would be a wise move on the part of Celtic.

Kvistgaarden is not a prolific goalscorer yet but he could certainly develop into one. At 21, he does have a lot of attributes to be excited about.

Celtic might have to loosen the purse strings to get a deal done for Kvistgaarden though. It is believed that Brondby IF will consider letting him leave if they receive a significant offer.
