Celtic Warned About Potential Brendan Rodgers Issue
Celtic need to bring in players in the January transfer window. This is looking like a team that is struggling to deal with even league competition at this point.
Celtic's latest setback was a 2-1 defeat against Kilmarnock. It was not their first loss at Rugby Park this season either. It was there that they were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup earlier in the campaign.
While Brendan Rodgers has been criticised in the aftermath of the game, the Northern Irishman is in a tough situation right now. The club did not bring in any proven players over the summer, instead putting all their eggs in the 'project signings' basket.
It has not worked out. Other than Luis Palma, nobody has really made much of an impact. And even the Honduran has lost a bit of his form in recent games after a blistering start to life at Parkhead.
That has made the January transfer window vital for Celtic, if they want to save their season. It could have an effect on Rodgers' future at Parkhead too.
According to the Daily Record, Pat Bonner told BBC Sportsound: "If Brendan Rodgers goes after a player, he is maybe going to have to go after a player that is not in the team and you might have to pay over the odds to get that player in.
"But, the club have got to back him on that front. If they don't I can see an issue coming down the road."
Rodgers has spoken to the media about the need to bring in quality to the club. The fans recognise that as well. Hopefully, the board do too.
The problem is, that it is not easy to make good signings in January. Players are often available at premium transfer fees, as clubs are not keen to part ways with key stars in the middle of the season.
Unfortunately, Celtic are not a team who are keen to shell out premium transfer fees to sign players. That is not great news for Rodgers.
They will need to go into this January transfer window with an open mind and hopefully, they will come out of it much stronger than they entered it. At least that has to be the target.
