Celtic Forced to Change Plans After Triple Injury
Celtic find themselves in a very difficult position right now. The start of the season has been really tough with all the injuries that Brendan Rodgers' team have been dealing with and they are already out of the Scottish League Cup too.
The Centre-back area has been particularly hurt over the past few weeks. The club have three of their best defenders out for a long-term basis.
Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and summer signing Maik Nawrocki are all out of action for the next couple of months at the very least. Yuki Kobayashi is currently unavailable as well.
That has left Rodgers with barely any options to pick his centre-back pairing from. Gustaf Lagerbielke, Tomoki Iwata and Liam Scales are the three recognised centre-backs in the squad right now.
Scale is the most experienced out of the trio, and even he has played just 13 games for Celtic. So, things are not looking up for the club at the moment.
Despite signing a couple of centre-backs this summer in the form of Nawrocki and Lagerbielke, it looks like the situation might force Celtic into making another addition there.
According to Sky Sports, when questioned if he would look for reinforcements in that area before the summer transfer window closes, Rodgers said: "I think we have to look at it, there's no doubt. It's an area that we are light on.
"When you are losing three players for that length of time, and knowing the number of games we will have and the importance of every game, then it's definitely something we have to look at."
Hopefully, Celtic will go after an experienced centre-back this time around rather than bringing in another youngster, who might or might not turn out to be good.
While fans are often against the idea of loan moves, this might be the right time to consider one. There are expected to be good opportunities in the transfer market as we head towards deadline day. The Hoops just need to seek them out.
