Celtic Handed Superb Alistair Johnston Injury Boost
Alistair Johnston has not yet returned to action for Celtic, since undergoing surgery in the summer. The Canadian international picked up an injury towards the end of last season but had managed to recover enough to take part in the Scottish Cup final as well as feature for his national team.
Johnston might have arrived earlier this year but he has been a key part of this Celtic team since he stepped foot in Glasgow. So, fans are hoping that he returns to full fitness as soon as possible.
Especially at this point in time, when Celtic are dealing with a number of injuries to key players. No position has been hurt by them more than their backline.
Johnston is of course the starting right-back when fully fit. On the other hand, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki are all dealing with injuries picked up in recent weeks.
Thus, Johnston returning to action would come as a major boost for Celtic. The latest transfer update regarding the Canadian international would be music to the ears of the club's supporters.
According to The Scottish Sun, Johnston trained towards the end of last week. The Canadian international could feature against St Johnstone at the weekend.
That is superb news for Brendan Rodgers' side to say the least. Even if Johnston does not end up participating in the upcoming game against St Johnstone, it certainly looks like he is closing on a return.
That has come at the right time as well. Celtic are set to travel to Ibrox in early September in order to face Rangers.
Celtic could certainly do with a player of Johnston's quality for that game, as well as someone with his personality. The Canadian international seems to thrive under the bright lights.
Hopefully, Johnston will be fit to feature against Rangers at Ibrox next month. That would be a much-needed boost for Celtic.
