Celtic Duo's Time Might be Up After Champions League Snub
Celtic's squad for the UEFA Champions League group stages has been revealed. And there are some calls from Brendan Rodgers which have come under the microscope.
The headlines have been dominated by the omission of three summer signings in Maik Nawrocki, Hyeok-kyu Kwon and Marco Tilio.
The Polish defender is out injured but was starting games when he was available. Tilio has not featured since arriving, and has just recovered from an injury. As for Kwon, he has been available but not gotten into the side and is yet to make his debut for Celtic.
All three are summer signings and there is time for them to find their feet in Glasgow. As for a few others, the writing might be on the wall.
Yuki Kobayashi and Alexandro Bernabei are two players who have been left out of the Champions League squad. Both were signed while Ange Postecoglou was manager of the club.
Neither Kobayashi nor Bernabei has impressed during their time in Glasgow. And following this latest omission, it might be time for them to start considering their futures.
There was speculation that Kobayashi could return to Japan in the summer. That did not happen. The centre-back was dealing with an injury himself.
Bernabei joined Celtic from Lanus last summer. He is the first Argentine player in the history of the club. But the left-back's time in Glasgow has proven to be a major disappointment and it seems like Liam Scales has ahead of him in the pecking order.
The Irishman has played both times as a centre-back. But he is capable of playing at left-back too and might be a more reliable option there than Bernabei, who is brilliant going forward but struggles defensively.
It would not be much of a surprise if Kobayashi and Bernabei are no longer at the club this time next year.
