Celtic Handed €2.8million Boost With Win Against Feyenoord

Celtic were handed a €2.8 million cash boost with their win against Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League.

Not many people expected Celtic to end their decade-plus wait for a win at Parkhead in the Champions League going into their final group stage game of the campaign against Feyenoord.

After all, Brendan Rodgers' team have been heavily criticised over the last few days following their 2-1 away defeat against Kilmarnock. The club have struggled for form throughout the season.

Even when Luis Palma scored from a penalty to give them the lead, there was a feeling of inevitability that Feyenoord would equalise. And they did in the 82nd minute. Another case of Celtic failing to defend the simplest of balls into the box.

That has happened time and again in Europe. The difference is, this time around, the Bhoys came back to score the winner.

Perhaps they were helped by the fact that there was nothing riding on the result and the pressure was off. Or simply because they needed a win after the result at the weekend.

Whatever may have been the case, Celtic got the job done for a change. Gustaf Lagerbielke found himself with a free header into an open net at the far post in the 91st minute after Matt O'Riley had done fantastically well to set it up for him with a delicious cross.

Thankfully, the Swede made no mistake and secured a win for Celtic in the Champions League, something that has been a rare sight over the past decade.

The result also means that Celtic will receive a figure of around €2.8 million, the prize for winning a Champions League group stage game. That is a significant figure for the Scottish club.

Hopefully, Celtic will use this result to improve and end up going on to have a successful campaign from here on forward. For that to happen, they might need to add some quality signings to their squad in the January transfer window.

Tonight might be the time to celebrate a win in the Champions League. Nothing has really changed for Celtic in the grand scheme of things though, as they still need to succeed domestically.
