Roy Keane Mentions Celtic as Tottenham Defeat Manchester United

Roy Keane gave Celtic a mention as Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur got a 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Celtic fans were left bitterly disappointed when Ange Postecoglou left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The Australian had achieved incredible success during his two seasons in Glasgow and the supporters were clearly hoping for a much longer run.

Postecoglou won five of the six domestic competitions that Celtic competed in during his reign as manager of the club. The circumstances in which he arrived make this feat even more impressive.

When Postecoglou was appointed, Celtic were coming off their worst campaign in a long time. They had failed to even challenge for a single trophy in the 2020/21 season and Rangers had finished 25 points ahead of them, winning the Premiership and preventing 10-in-a-row in the process.

On top of that, Celtic saw key players like Scott Brown, Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer, Ryan Christie and more leave that summer. Thus, Postecoglou was dealt a very difficult hand.

Not many gave him a chance. In fact, most Celtic fans were left unimpressed by the appointment. It did not take long for the Australian to prove the doubters wrong and turn critics into fans.

Over his two seasons at Celtic Park, Postecoglou became a fan favourite. Not just because of the success and the brand of football but his conduct off the pitch as well. He seemed to understand what the club was all about.

So, his exit came as a blow to Celtic fans. It is good to see him doing well at Tottenham Hotspur though.

He has already become a fan favourite in London after they were initially uncertain about the appointment as well. Their 2-0 win over Manchester United this weekend was a statement of intent.

According to the Daily Record, Roy Keane told Sky Sports: "I reckon he [Ange] doesn't overcomplicate things, keeps it simple. Obviously I've seen stuff before from him, particularly when he was at Celtic. A lot of the stuff he is saying is just common sense, a club like Spurs needed that. He seems to simplify that very well."

While Postecoglou leaving Celtic was a disappointment, it is hard to reject a move to a club like Tottenham Hotspur. Especially for someone like the Australian, who is in the latter stages of his career as a manager and was not going to get too many more opportunities of that magnitude, if any.
