Liverpool Reject Celtic Enquiry For Left-back
Greg Taylor might have scored for Celtic in their recent 3-0 win over St Mirren but left-back is a position where Brendan Rodgers' can be improved. The January transfer window could be the perfect chance to do that.
Taylor needs some competition for the starting spot. Alexandro Bernabei quite certainly is not pushing him at this moment, as barely features and has not started a single game this season.
Bernabei was signed from Lanus in the summer of 2022 for a transfer fee believed to be around £3.75 million. He has proven to be one of the most disappointing signings of the Ange Postecoglou era.
Bernabei does bring something to the table going forward but he simply is not good enough when it comes to the defensive side of things.
It would make sense for Celtic to part ways with Bernabei in January and bring in another left-back to take his place in the squad.
Owen Beck has been linked with a potential move to Celtic, as well as Rangers, lately after an impressive loan stint at Dundee FC. Unfortunately, return to Scotland might not be on the cards for the 21-year-old.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic and Rangers made enquiries but Liverpool have rejected their advances for Beck. Jurgen Klopp is preparing to hand him game time at Anfield.
Beck was impressive while on loan at Dundee FC. On the other hand, Liverpool are struggling with injuries at left-back with both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas injured right now.
Fortunately, Beck is not the only left-back Celtic have been linked with recently. Tiago Araujo of Estoril is rumoured to be a transfer target for the Scottish champions too.
Aruajo was a standout while coming through the Benfica youth ranks. Celtic have had good luck with Jota and Paulo Bernardo.
It is believed that a transfer fee around £4 million could be enough to sign Araujo from Estoril in the January transfer window.
Of course, there is a possibility that Celtic might choose to wait until the summer to sign a left-back, when more and potentially better opportunities might be available.
