Joe Hart Set to Leave as Celtic Eye Replacement

Joe Hart looks set to leave Celtic soon, with the club eyeing a new number one goalkeeper.

Joe Hart has managed to divide the opinion of Celtic supporters over his time as the club's first-choice goalkeeper, having arrived in 2021 from Tottenham Hotspur.

Even at that time, many were not sure about the decision to sign Hart, someone whose best days had seemed well behind him and he was cover at Tottenham Hotspur.

Celtic did need someone proven in goal though after Vasilis Barkas had failed to impress following a €5 million move from AEK Athens the previous summer.

One could argue that Hart has done the job he was brought in to do. Five domestic trophies out of a possible seven speaks for itself.

At the same time, it is about time that Celtic start looking for Hart's successor in goal. His contract runs out in the summer and he will be 37 by that point.

Hart's performances in recent months have been heavily criticised by a section of the support as well. And it looks like his days at the club are numbered.

According to Football Insider, Hart is in line to leave Celtic. The club will replace him as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper in the summer. The goalkeeper position is their top priority for the summer window.

Hart has done a pretty decent job at Celtic and perhaps does not get enough credit for what he has brought to this club, both on and off the pitch.

It is time to move on though. Also, it remains to be seen if Hart wants to continue playing or hang up his gloves for good when his run at Celtic comes to an end, whether that is next summer or beyond.

Hopefully, Celtic will sign a proper long-term replacement for Hart between the posts and not just another short-term solution to fill the gap for the next few years.

The Hoops have been linked with goalkeepers like Caoimhin Kelleher and Andriy Lunin.

Considering Celtic's recent track record when it comes to transfers, it is hard to imagine either of those goalkeepers ending up at Parkhead.

Celtic are often linked with high-profile names but rarely do those links lead anywhere. Instead, the club mostly sign project players in hopes of developing them into superstars.
