Gary Neville Hails Celtic Transfer Target For 'World-Class' Display
Celtic's transfer business over the past couple of seasons has not been good. There is clear need for improvement in the recruitment department and hopefully, we will see that happen next summer.
One position Celtic most definitely need to strengthen next summer is between the posts. That is because current number one Joe Hart has already announced that he will be hanging up his gloves after this season.
Hart has been Celtic's first-choice goalkeeper since he joined the club in the summer of 2021 from Tottenham Hotspur in a reported £1 million transfer move.
He has not always been the most praised figure amongst the fans but Hart has done his job quite well, both as a player and as a veteran presence in a relatively inexperienced squad.
So, he will be leaving behind big gloves to fill. Hopefully, Celtic will be successful in bringing in a proper replacement this summer.
One fantastic player Celtic have been linked with lately is Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool. The goalkeeper's stock continues to rise though, as he produced a fantastic display in the League Cup final win for the Reds over Chelsea.
Gary Neville appeared to have been impressed with what he saw from Liverpool's second-choice goalkeeper at Wembley.
According to HITC, Neville said on Sky Sports Premier League (3:21 pm, February 25, 2024): “What a save, what a save from Kelleher!
“Chelsea out of nowhere, Robertson for some reason goes charging into midfield, Van Dijk can’t get across, and Raheem Sterling, you would think, has got to hit that first time. Why has he not?
“But it falls to Cole Palmer, he just tries to sweep it into the near post, but Kelleher, well, it’s wonderful. He has got a world-class goalkeeper in front of him, but he has delivered a world-class moment there.”
Later on in the game, the Manchester United legend also said about Kelleher: “He has been immaculate, the goalkeeper, he really has.”
These kinds of performances from Kelleher will only make it more difficult for Celtic to sign him from Liverpool in the future.
There is absolutely no doubt that he is a fantastic goalkeeper but with Alisson Becker ahead of him at Liverpool, Kelleher might choose to leave the club in the summer in search of a regular starting spot somewhere else.
Of course, Liverpool will undergo a managerial change next summer and it is possible that their future manager might be able to convince Kelleher to stay.
Even if he were to leave, Kelleher has only increased his transfer value lately. A figure that might already be out of Celtic's reach.
