Celtic Player Tipped to be Dropped Despite Impressive Form
Celtic are struggling with a number of injuries to key players at the moment. That has allowed a few others to step up to the plate and make their presence felt. Some have taken the chance while others have not.
One player who certainly seems to be enjoying his moment in the spotlight is Liam Scales. He was heavily linked with a summer exit but perhaps injuries to players like Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh stopped that from happening.
Thankfully so as well because he put in a man of the match performance against Rangers at Ibrox as Celtic got themselves a 1-0 win. Scales earned a lot of plaudits for his display, keeping a clean sheet in the Glasgow Derby.
Scales has played in two games this season and kept clean sheets in both of them. He looked good in pre-season as well and showed he could deliver in the Premiership while on loan at Aberdee last season.
Despite that, there is a feeling that his time as a Celtic starter could be short-lived. According to TBR Football, Andy Walker said on The Go Radio Football Show:
"Liam Scales, how many games is he going to get when Celtic have got [Maik] Nawrocki fit and when Carter Vickers is back the likelihood is he’ll revert back to the bench."
That is certainly a fair assessment. Let's see how much playing time Scales is handed once everybody is fit and available.
One would expect Cameron Carter-Vickers to remain a starter after how well he has done over the past two seasons. Also, it is very possible that new signings like Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke will be given more chances than players who have already been here for a while.
Do not forget Stephen Welsh either. He signed a long-term extension with the club before getting injured.
