Celtic Hand Scott McKenna Transfer Advantage to Rangers

Celtic have handed the transfer advantage in the race to sign Scott McKenna from Nottingham Forest to Rangers.

Celtic have been linked with plenty of players over the past several weeks as it is clear that Brendan Rodgers needs to bring in some fresh faces in January to refresh and reinforce the squad.

A lot of the rumours have led nowhere though. The transfer saga surrounding Fabio Silva is a prime example of that.

Celtic were said to be interested in signing Silva on loan from Wolves. He ended up at Ibrox instead and it emerged that the Hoops were not really interested in signing the Portuguese youngster.

That could be about to happen for the second time this window. After a ton of rumours in recent days, it looks like Celtic might have never been in the race to sign Scott McKenna in the first place.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers won’t face a transfer battle with Celtic if they push ahead with a January move for McKenna. Rodgers has not placed the name of the Nottingham Forest centre-back on his list of defensive targets. That could clear the way for the Ibrox club.

Up until recently, McKenna was said to be Celtic's top target at centre-back in January. Turns out that might not be the case at all.

McKenna, a full Scottish international, finds himself out of the team at Nottingham Forest right now. The centre-back's current contract runs out next summer.

Naturally, it is believed that Nottingham Forest want an exit to transpire this month so they can get a transfer fee out of McKenna's departure.

McKenna was signed by Nottingham Forest in 2020 in what was a club-record transfer for Aberdeen. He was an important part of Tricky Trees' team as well, even winning Player of the Season in their promotion-winning campaign.

Things are clearly not working out between both parties right now. So, going their separate ways might be the best idea for all involved. A move to Parkhead does not seem to lie in McKenna's future though.
