Celtic Fans Told Why Kieran Tierney Could Make Parkhead Return
Celtic fans were left disappointed when Kieran Tierney left the club in order to join Arsenal in 2019, in a Scottish record £25 million transfer move.
Tierney is someone many fans had hoped would spend his entire career at Celtic. He had grown up supporting the club and come through their youth system too.
Tierney had seemed destined to become Celtic captain one day but ended up joining Arsenal. He is still on their books but is currently out on loan at Real Sociedad, after losing his place in Mikel Arteta's team.
There were a lot of rumours linking Tierney with a return to Celtic in the summer. They might have seemed far-fetched to most people, but Scott Brown is not ready to rule the possibility out.
Brown was the captain of Celtic when Tierney broke into the senior team and the two clearly shared a great bond.
It is something that Broony would love to see happen. According to Glasgow Times, Brown had said at Hampden earlier this week: “I’d love to see him back at Celtic, I would.
“He’s loved by all the fans and it’s such a huge club for him. It was a hard decision for him to leave because the club means so much to him. But at the same time he’s been away for that long now and experienced different things. Maybe he wants to experience other things now.
“There are a lot of clubs in England who’d take him. In fact, there are clubs all over the world who would take him, to be perfectly honest. But Celtic have that pull over him which is a great thing. I’d love to see it happen one day. You never know.”
Brown went on to add: “His whole family support Celtic. He went to the games when he was a kid. I’ve seen the pictures of him with Naka (Shunsuke Nakamura) when he got his boots and things like that. It’s in his blood, Celtic.
“It (Arsenal) was a hard move for him, it was heartbreaking. But I think it was the right move at the right time. And to the right club. I think he would have learned a lot working with Mikel Arteta even though he’s maybe not played as much.
“It will have been something totally different going over to Spain. He’s now experienced a lot but whenever he’s gone he’s been a top pro. You can see all the fans love him no matter where he goes.”
It is understandable why Tierney chose to leave Celtic when he did. A footballer's career is short and unfortunately, he has dealt with his fair share of injuries through the course of his career, although he is still just 26.
Tierney returning to Celtic someday can definitely not be ruled out. He clearly loves the club and has had nothing but good things to say, even after leaving for Arsenal.
Do not expect to see that happen anytime soon though. Tierney can easily continue playing in one of the top five European leagues for the foreseeable future.
Even when at Arsenal, he was considered one of their best players and potentially a future captain of the club before he lost his place in the team.
