Brendan Rodgers Confirms Celtic Talks With Two Players
Celtic will head into the international break on a high note, having won their last game ,against St Johnstone, comfortably by a 3-1 margin. Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest were on the scoresheet for Brendan Rodgers' team.
It has been an interesting few weeks for Celtic and the international break will give the players some time to reset and recover, especially with the likes of Luis Palma, Callum McGregor, Liam Scales, Reo Hatate and more out injured.
Amid all these injuries, one player who has gotten quite a decent bit of playing time lately is the club's 18-year-old rising midfielder, Daniel Kelly.
Even against St Johnstone, Kelly was brought on around the hour mark. This represented the fourth straight game in which he has featured.
Excellent progress and experience for a player who made his debut in January. Unsurprisingly, there has been talk of a contract extension for him.
Kelly is not the only Celtic youngster who the club are interested in handing a new deal to. Rocco Vata is another one.
Arguably Celtic B's best player, opportunities have been rarer for Vata. He was an unused substitute against St Johnstone.
Yet, it looks like Celtic are hoping to agree extensions with both Kelly and Vata. According to Football Scotland, Rodgers said while speaking about the two youngsters:
"Daniel's had the opportunity more than Rocco has but both players have shown quality and more importantly, for me, as young players they're showing that willingness to learn and develop and improve.
"Both players I think have been in talks with the club, but I don't really have any update on that."
It is believed that Celtic are actually closing in on agreeing a four-year contract extension with Kelly.
That is understandable. Kelly is getting a lot of chances right now and there is no reason for him to leave, and take an unnecessary risk.
Clubs like RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen have been linked with Kelly though. So, there is clearly top-level interest in him, if he wants to assess his options.
Agreeing a contract extension with Vata will be much more difficult. He has only been given two opportunities to feature this season and both off the bench.
Multiple clubs in Italy and across Europe are rumoured to be interested in Vata, who has been having a great time with the Celtic B team despite his struggles to break into the senior picture.
